sleeping position. Sleeping on the stomach, belly, abdomen,
guts etc is bad for the health and sometimes, it is even dangerous.
It is not a good thing to sacrifice your health for your
comfort. In this article, you will learn why you need to stop sleeping on your
tummy.
1) The Chest Gets Compressed: This makes breathing less
efficient as you will not get enough oxygen throughout the body, thereby making
you feel tired in the morning. Also soft tissues in the chest area suffers from
extra pressure and with time may likely develop congestion, mastitis or cysts.
2) The Backbone Suffers: This is because it is an unnatural
position for your spine. It puts too much pressure on the middle of the back
thereby causing it to be stiff and achy in the morning.
3) The Stomach Suffers: This is because, the organs around
the tummy will stop doing their job appropriately overtime. The situation even
worsens, if you go to bed with a full stomach because acid reflux will develop
overtime and can lead to gastritis or ulcer.
4) The Face Looks Older: When the face is pressed to the
pillow all night, blood circulation under the skin gets worse which leads to
puffiness. You might assume that it’s due to water retention. Reason is,
pressure on the skin reduces elasticity and with time wrinkles on the cheeks
and around the nose becomes visible.
5) The Arteries Near The Backbone Gets Constricted: blood
flow to the brain get limited as your bead is turned to the side. For people
with high cholesterol, this position may be dangerous as the brain is left
without oxygen.
6) The joints of the knees, elbows and feet twists in
awkward way causing strains.
7) This sleeping position puts stress on the heart thereby
causing excessive heart rate if a person has heart problem.
Although sleeping on the tummy is good in some cases, here
is why;
1) In babies it reduces cramps but a pillow shouldn’t be put
under.
2) Kidney Issues: This sleep position helps people with
kidney issues because it reduces pressure in the kidneys.
3) If the back/shoulders are tired: Especially after sitting
in front of a computer for a while. But it is advisable that you should switch
to other sleep positions in the middle of the night. To avoid some of the
issues mentioned earliest on this article.
